The 10 min video about a man named Greg Mortson and Central Asia Institute, who work together to educate women in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Greg Mortson decided to make the Central Asia Institute when he tried to hike up a mountain and failed and on his way down found a village and they nursed him back to health and when he saw that they had a dire desire to learn he told them he would be back to build a school for them and a couple of years later he did. Helping the women be educated helps because it lowers the death of babies. The skills that they women learn help the local economy because they know about trading and selling. The program also helps children who want to further their education by offering scholarships. People from Pakistan and Afghanistan say that because Greg respects their culture and ways of life that is why the program is so successful because he is not forcing them to learn, he just wants to help them. The program also provides clean water in the villages since the most deaths of children under 5 is not having clean water. I think it is good that he saw that they wanted to learn and decided to help by not forcing something on them. He respects their way of life and instead of trying to change them he wants to better them teach them that there are other ways of doing things. This movie made me realize how many people take education for granted, when people choose to drop out of school there is someone out there who would love to have the opportunity to learn.
This is an example that when a good thing is done, many other blessings follow, its like a chain of goods. Someone helped a person in need then he was inspired to help back and in the process many other people were benefited.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree when you say that we take we take education for granted. Its so weird to look at other countries and see that they envy us because we have a place to go to school and can educate ourselves. This video honestly made me not take the simple things in life for granted because what we have easily could be someone elses wish.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you many people do take education for granted, because many of them don’t really care about it, will others really wish they could have they money for they could go.
ReplyDeleteI too agree with what you say about people taking education for granted because there really are other people out there in the world that would give anything to learn. I really like how you explain that Greg Mortinson doesn't force them to learn but that he shows them better things to look forward to.
ReplyDeleteThe video set a good example of what everyone should do to help those in need. I completely agree with what you have to say. People these days are taking their education for granted when there are others out there striving for the chance to educate themselves and better their lives.
ReplyDeletei like how u mention that he just wants to hurt them and he does it by not forcing them to learn but to really just help them..and this girls really want to learn because they don't have that opportunity often and hey take advantage to learn everything they can and most people don't...
ReplyDeleteI really like how much information you provided from the 10 minute video. You talk about each aspect very clearly for the reader to understand. People do take education for granted and it's good that you pointed that out.
ReplyDeleteYou are right. It is unbelievable how people drop out of school when they could be at one with the financial support from the government. People around the world are fighting for getting an education while others just prefer to drop out.
ReplyDeleteYou made two good observations.
ReplyDelete1- He helps them in a way that is not by force, he respects their culture and traditions and complements them by giving them education.
2- It is true that we are lucky to receive a higher education when so many persons in the world want one.
Good job in writing and explaining the 10 min video in a concise way.
you seem to appreciate everything hes done for these people and you understand that there are people out there who can really change the world. you make education an understandable argument in these countries.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed very much reading your summary about the 10 min film. I wa expecting to hear more abou tyou're opinion other than what you analyzied, but overall you did a good job.
